Raoul Jay (indie, pop, punk) is based in Brussels and sits between overly clean guitars, a wrecked voice, and heavy drum machinces, he practices arrogance like a discipline. Raoul delivers an artistic and political project determined to tear down every cliche of self-righteous, well-behaved pop, with the ambition of making everyone dance, from the jacked fitness influencer to the stray dog roaming the parking lot. Born among the cold bricks of Brussels, the project lets almost-wrong notes resonate and distills a questionable kind of hope, lasting just long enough for the cheesy chorus. The voice, cynical, and nonchalant, sits on an instrumental as cheap and uncomfortable as a bargin-bin IKEA mattress, just effective enough t forget, for three minutes, the tragedy of a mediocre life.
